How Listening to Christian Music Can Change Your Life
Posted 6 days ago - Jan 24, 2025
From: Reyna ReynaCan listening to Christian music really change your life? I’m living proof, it absolutely can.
I was first introduced to Christian music when I was about 9 years old. I had a single mom who was doing all she could to maintain our household, pay the bills, and stay on a path of sobriety from drug and alcohol addiction. Life was tough, and as much as my mom loved me, she didn’t always have time to show it.
When my mom couldn’t make it to church, my Sunday school teachers offered me a ride. I jumped at the chance! Church was my safe place. There people were excited to see me, they gave me hugs, and there was snacks!
That’s also where I first learned about Jesus. This man who loved me, would never leave me, and had a purpose for my life. No one else was telling me this and these were the truths I desperately needed.
At the time my father was in prison and my mom was often too busy to spend time with me. I know now that they both endured hardships in their childhoods that made them unavailable, but this left me alone, a lot.
But when I learned about Jesus somehow I didn't feel alone anymore. I felt Him close, and I needed Him close.
One day, on the ride home from church, I listened to the songs playing on the radio. They were songs about the same man I’d been learning about at church. I don’t know how to explain it, but learning about Him just made me feel like everything was going to be okay. I was going to be okay.
I remember thinking, I need to know where this music is coming from.
That day when we pulled up to my house, before getting out of the vehicle I peered over their shoulders from the backseat and read the numbers brightened up on the radio dial, '89.3 KSBJ'. I quickly told them, “Thank you for the ride, bye!”
Then I ran into my house, the whole time repeating the numbers over and over again in my head so I wouldn’t forget, “89.3, 89.3, 89.3.”
When I got to my room, I flipped my radio to that station.
For the first time, I felt peace in my room. Those songs filled the quiet, and in a way, they filled my heart, too.
Life hasn’t been perfect since then. I’ve had my ups and downs, and there was even a season when I turned away from God. But even when I wouldn’t step foot in a church, I never forgot the numbers on that radio dial.
When life got hard, I knew where to turn and I hope you do too. Right now we're inviting you to take the 7-Day Challenge. Listen to nothing but 89.3 KSBJ for 7 days and experience the difference it can make in your life!
I remember walking the halls of the church when I was young and looking up to read this scripture that changed me forever.
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
This scripture is true for you too. Whatever season in life you’re in as you start another year, know that God has a purpose and a plan for you. The closer you get to Him the more clear that purpose will become.
I know that was my experience. I never could've imagined I would now be a part of the radio station that God used in my life, but it wasn’t my plan- it was His.
